Wedding Update #1

Ok so from June to September after we got engaged, I didn't do a single thing.  But then, these past few weekends, I decided to get my butt into gear, so I went into full blown wedding mode, and got the following things done:

  • Booked a Venue - Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center
  • Determined the approximate number of guests - 450 to 500 people!!
  • Picked my bridesmaids, flowergirls, groomsmen, ring boy
  • Went to 4 different bridal gown stores to start looking at/trying on bridal gowns (and I think I *may* have found my wedding dress...but I'm gonna go back and look some more because I still have so much time before I really have to make a decision)
  • Picked my wedding colors (Champagne with accents of dark red....very asian, I know)
  • Booked a band (Gholston's Greatest Musicians - The Great Expectations Band)
  • Signed Liyang and myself up for dance lessons with the Wedding Dance Specialists (our first lesson is this Sunday!  I'm so excited!!!)
  • Started looking at photographers/booked a couple of meetings for the next few weekends
  • Booked a makeup trial
  • Started going on (and off) a diet
  • Started running at least 3 times a week, and go to the driving range on weekends with Liyang to practice our golf  skills (we're hoping to get good enough to go and play a real game by next spring)
  • Booked tickets to Taiwan in May for 2 weeks so we can get our wedding pictures taken

All of this, and we still have another year before the wedding!  I think we'll get it all done in time...and so far, it's been stressless and kinda fun! :)  Whew...looking at it in list form, I've done alot, and yet I still feel like I've only touched the tip of the iceburg!  And I still feel like I have lots more to do (i.e. Save-the-dates, invitations, gift registry, guest list, favors, flowers, dinner menu, cake, gifts, ceremony music, wedding rings, honeymoon, bridesmaids dresses, groomsmen tuxes...and a million more other things I'm sure I haven't even begun to think about). :)

So that's what I've been up to.  Oh right, and work, which is alot of fun! :)  And I'm heading to good ole' UMCP on Wednesday to do recruiting for Deloitte!  Anyone else gonna be there for their companies? :)

The Ring

Ok, so I promised to post pics of the ring...sorry it took me so long!  I've just been uber-busy trying to get my head around the fact that a) we are engaged and b) we have so much to do for the wedding! We're planning on having the wedding in October of next year (right now, we're eyeing October 11th, but this may change).  Tomorrow, I have a meeting with the wedding coordinator of Marriott to see the space and maybe put a down payment on it! :)  Then we'll have a venue! A quick description before the pictures, the ring is round shaped, 1.2 carats in a white gold setting, with tiny diamonds in a channel setting on the sides. :)   Now enjoy the pictures (sorry if the pictures of the ring seem blurred...I was trying to capture the best angle, and seeing as how I am a horribly crappy photographer...the pictures came out kinda weird. Also, on a side note, I never noticed how stubby and fat my fingers were until i took pictures of them...).

Also, for your viewing enjoyment, a picture of me and Liyang outside the Verizon Center after we got engaged.  We look tired because...it had been a long day, and the show was something like 3 hours long.  We just wanted to go home and sleep!  He is holding leftovers in his hand from dinner.  If you look closely (and I mean really closely) you can see the ring on my left finger.  I tried to hold my hand up so that it would be in the picture.  I end up, instead, looking kind of awkward. Oh well!

I'm engaged! Or...I should say, we're engaged!

That's right!  By now, almost the entire world knows that Liyang and I are engaged, and we couldn't be happier!  And now...for the story that is "the unsexy proposal."

Saturday night, Liyang and I had tickets to go see Cirque Du Soleil at the Verizon Center, so after dinner, we headed over there and got there much earlier than planned (the show started at 8, and we were done with dinner by 7).  So we're sitting there, waiting for the show to start, when he suddenly turns to me and says, "Can I ask you a question?" Stupid me, thinking that he's thirsty or hungry (even though we just finished dinner) says "I don't really want popcorn." Liyang looks at me funny and says..."That's not the question." So then I proceed to say, "I'm not really thirsty either..." He looks horrified (because I don't think he saw the proposal going this way), and says,
"That's not...it either."  By this time, I'm completely confused so my response is "What then?"  He then proceeds to take the ring out (my eyes are getting huge and I see what's coming) and asks me to marry him. My response? "You're KIDDING me right????" followed by, "no...freaking way." And then of course I said yes.  Ok, so that was not the most romantic thing ever.  Liyang's always kinda been the spontaneous type, and if you know us well, you'd know that this is SO like us! :)  So now we're engaged!  And according to my little sister Tina, we were engaged in the most "unsexiest" way ever.  I think its cute, and I still can't stop smiling.  The only unfortunate thing is that we were not allowed to take pictures inside the Verizon Center, so we have a total of one picture of us after the show.  I will upload it later, along with pictures of the ring (which is beautiful)!  Cheers everyone! :)

New Job

As some of you may know, I quit my job at the Patent Office because it wasn't what I was looking for in a career.  Honestly, after 8 months, it got to be stifling and repetitive, and knowing that I would never learn anything other than patent examining for the rest of my career stopped me in my tracks.  I felt like I had hit a brick wall with no viable way around it.

So I began a search for a new job, and was lucky enough to be hired by Deloitte Consulting LLP as a Systems Analyst in the technology integrations group of the federal sector.  I feel extremely lucky to have found a new job so quickly, and am looking forward to starting it on June 4th!

Until then, I plan to clean my room/pack things up because my parents just bought a new house in Potomac...so we're moving (the house is going to be finished in another month or two)!!  I also plan to go to Atlantic City for a few days May 29-May 31! :)

All in all, exciting new changes are in the air for me...hopefully, this new career path takes me down the route I always wanted to go: business + technology. :)  We'll see!
